So for the seniors, the A Team flew the flag, whilst the 1st & Reserve sides were on the end of heavy defeats. The Youths had a reduced fixture list, but gain valuable victories.
The 1st Team welcomed Wantage Town Reserves from Hellenic Division 1 East in the 2nd Round of the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup and despite the visitors seeing their manager resign earlier in the week, they ran out convincing 0-4 victors. Town were not helped by selection issues.
The Reserves traveled to Kintbury Rangers Reserves in NBFL Division 2, looking to reverse a 9 match run of fixtures against the hosts without a victory. Despite the match being end to end with various chances for both sides, Rangers took their chances to win 1-5, in a match where skipper Paul Smith missed a first half penalty.
The A Team were at home to Drayton Reserves, with both sides looking to gain their first win of the season in NBFL Division 4. Town gained the three points with a double from Jason Evans and the third from Adam Bird to get their season up and running, with a 3-1 win despite the heavy tactics of the visitors.
The under 8’s & 10’s played out entertaining matches at Tucker Park on Saturday morning, gaining valuable experience against Barton United 7 Summertown Cobra’s in their respective Development Leagues.
The under 15’s progressed into the 2nd Round of the Berks & Bucks Minor Cup for the first ever time, with a convincing and comfortable 7-2 home victory over Thatcham Tornadoes at Tucker Park on Sunday afternoon.
Iain Lawson’s under 16’s traveled to Witney to play Freeland FC and came away with a 2-1 victory, to move upto third position with games in hand over the leaders.
The under 17’s were also in cup action, entertaining Abingdon United Under 18’s to Tucker Park on Sunday afternoon and despite the age difference, Town gave a good account of themselves, before finally losing 0-3 in the League Cup.
