The seniors saw cup wins for the Reserves & A’s, whilst the development sides all had positive results…….
Town 1st Team traveled to Long Wittenham Athletic, looking to start climbing up the division. Town made the worst possible start, conceding two early goals, but managed to fight back through an own goal. Unfortunately, despite having the majority of chances, Town couldn’t find the equaliser and came away with a 2-1 defeat.
The Reserves entertained Letcombe FC Reserves from the Hellenic Division 2 West, who fielded three ex-Town players in their starting 11, plus manager Matty Clark. Town had the lions share of chances and took the one that mattered, as Dave Cole headed home from close range, to progress into the 3rd Round of the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup with a 1-0 win.
Town A’s went over to Wallingford Town to meet the only other ‘A’ side in NBFL football in the League Cup 1st Round. Town have been runners-up the two previous seasons and came away with an encouraging 3-0 victory to start the road to Milton Utd. Town opened the scoring within 30 seconds through Liam Farmer, who also grabbed a second and Stuart Finnigan guaranteed the victory.
Our three development sides all have positive wins in their Saturday morning games. The under 8’s had a hard battle with East Oxford United, but took the win. The under 9’s are growing with confidence each week and claimed anothe morale boosting victory, whilst the under 10’s had a large victory on the road.
Chris Benson’s under 12’s traveled to Thatcham Tornadoes in the County Cup and despite having numerous chances, they lost to a single goal and are our of the competition at the first hurdle.
Also out of their own County Cup is the under 13’s who were well beaten at Tucker Park by Thatcham Town Harriers 4-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Earlier on Sunday morning, Town under 15’s played Marston Saints in the C League and gained a 4-2 victory, which has lifted the side to fourth position, 4 points behind the league leaders with a game in hand.
The under 16’s were without a fixture.
The under 17’s were the final side in action over the weekend as two of the unbeaten sides in the B League met. Clanfield (85) FC were the visitors, with Town taking a 2-0 half time lead, however the visitors fought back in the 2nd half to claim a share of the points.
