This weekend saw the very late cancellation of the A Team game, the Reserves picked up a valuable 3 points, whilst the under 16’s moved to second position.
The Reserves and A Team met for their away trips to Hanney United and Berinsfield Reserves, expecting to both take the bare 11 players, even though the 1st Team were without a fixture! The A Team had receive a no show and two late calls to say players were unavailable and a decision was made to make the embarrassing phone call to Berinsfield Football Club, to advise the A Team would not be travelling with 8 players. The lack of player availability and commitment has meant the club has been fined and also been asked to cover the referee’s match fee, due to the late cancellation of the fixture.
The Reserves travelled to mid-table Hanney United in NBFL Division 2 and due to the A Team postponement, were able to field a full bench. Town started brightly and took the lead through a Dave Cole cross being palmed into his own goal by the home keeper. Soon after and Dan Oyston made it two nil, when he rolled the defender on the goal-line, before looping an effort off his shin pad over the despairing keeper. With the half drawing to a close, Max Scholefield made it 3-0, with a well taken finish from the edge of the penalty area. The second half was very scrappy with the home side in the ascendancy, grabbing a goal back on 70 minutes, but Town sealed the point when good work from subs Ciaran Boast & Nick Wojcik, played in Cole to register a 4-1 victory.
The under 9’s travelled to Grove Challengers in their latest Development fixture. The game was scheduled for Tucker Park, but with the pitch being used by the new playground installers, we thank Grove for the swap. The match was played in good spirits and will help both sides progression.
And finally……the under 16’s welcomed Oxford City in the OIYL B Division to Tucker Park, knowing a win would help them in their quest for a promotion place. Town completed a double of City with a convincing 6-3 victory and with Highfield Colts losing, Town moved to second position and the two sides meet next weekend.
