With no youth fixtures again this weekend, it was left to the seniors to continue their relegation dogfights, against promotion or title chasing sides…..
Darryl Curtis took his 1st Team squad to current NBFL Division 1 champions Berinsfield FC, hoping they could spring a major surprise and boost their spirits for the final push of the season. Town defended resolutely for long periods, withstanding waves of pressure, however the home side managed to put three goals into the Town goal for a 3-0 victory.
The Reserves were at home to promotion chasing Westminster FC in NBFL Division 2, looking to gain points to ease the threat of relegation. Town match their opponents for long periods of the opening half, however the visitors took the lead through a fortuitous goal, midway in the half. Immediately at the restart of the second half, Town found themselves 2-0 down after a mistake by the Town keeper. However, the squad showed some fighting spirit, missing from their recent cup exploits and scored two well taken goals from Colin Yates and could have won the match in the closing minutes, but were happy to share the spoils after being two goals down.
The A’s travelled to title favourites East Hendred Reserves, who defeated Town Reserves two weeks ago in the AG Kingham Cup, in NBFL Division 4. Town were without a recognised keeper, meaning joint manager Paul Hulme had to don the gloves and managed to keep the scoreline down, with the help of the 10 in front of him to 1-0 at the half time break. Unfortunately, the home sides quality came through in the second half, scoring a further four goals without reply.
