Weekend Preview – Saturday 6th April 2024

Two league ties are scheduled at Tucker Park this Saturday, with kick off’s at 13:00 & 15:00, weather dependent!!!

13:00 – Town A v Spartan Ranger Reserves

15:00 – The Don v Devizes Town Reserves

The Don look to build on last weeks dogged league victory over Kingsdown FC Development on Saturday, when fourth placed Devizes Town Reserves come to Tucker Park. Kick off in this Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League Division One tie is 15:00.

The Don went back to the top of the table with the 2-0 victory last Saturday, when goals from Josh Forth and Mitch Coombes saw the three points allow us to leap above previous leaders Park Utd, who surprisingly slipped to a 0-0 draw with basement side Stratton Juniors.

The Don travelled to Nurstead Road on the opening Saturday of the season, coming away with a hard earned 2-0 away victory with goals in the final twenty minutes from Kyle Bowyer and Liam Hares claiming the three points. Devizes were an impressive outfit and along with second positioned Park, have been our league hardest opposition to date. Devizes are still in the hunt for a promotion spot, sitting on forty points from twenty league games, eight points adrift from the top spot, but only four points away from third placed Marlborough Town, who they have a game in hand over.

Devizes come into the game on the back of a proverbial six pointer, overcoming fellow promotion chasers Bratton FC 3-1 with strikes from Ben Tylee, Liam Moffat and First Team forward Kieron Gleed. The goals sent them to the top of the league goalscoring charts, reaching seventy-five, but have conceded thirty five. Top goalscorer is Liam Moffat who has grabbed twenty goals in sixteen league fixtures.

A win for the visitors at Tucker Park, will bring them back into the title race, however three points for The Don will see a sizeable gap to the chasing sides below the promotion line. With the top five all to meet in the the remaining fixtures, a lot of twists and turns are expected. The Don squad was hit with unavailability last weekend due to the Easter long weekend and the squad looks healthy this weekend, however skipper Luke Davenport and full-back Sam Leech at missing.

The Don Squad From: Jack Gibson, Ethan Thompson, Harry Timbrell, Jack Tomes, Luke Smith, Liam Hares, Ray Lovell, Will Bazen, Josh Forth, Mitch Coombes, George James, Matt Pill, Adam Rudman, Jamie Broadfield, Morgan Watts, Kyle Bowyer.

The A Team pushed Aston Reserves all the way last weekend, before eventually succumbing to a 5-2 defeat in a Hartwell sponsored Witney & District League Division Three. Aston who are pushing for promotion, claiming a couple of late goals to confirm the victory despite, Jon Taylor and Chris Rutt’s strikes.

This weekend twelfth placed Town A welcome thirteenth Spartan Rangers Reserves to Tucker Park for the 13:00 KO. The two sides met in late September with Town A coming away with a valuable 2-0 away win with strikes from veterans Kenny Mortimer-Jones and Paul Smith. The two sides are separated by just two points, with Spartan having gained four victories, three draws and fourteen defeats from their twenty one games, scoring a goal a game total of twenty one and conceding eighty two.

A victory for the A’s will see them break clear of the bottom two, defeat will see them sink to second bottom.

Town A’s a have been lucky to have had the support and sponsorship from Wessex Recovery, another trusted partner of FTFC.
