With regret, we have today made the decision to withdraw from the Faringdon Thursday Memorial Cup Competition.
Following the 3-0 league defeat at Kintbury Rangers last night, we have a number of walking and non-walking wounded players. The lads have played 5 games in 10 days so far and with further league fixtures on Saturday and next Tuesday, player welfare has to be taken into consideration, hence the reason for the decision.
Efforts were made to change the fixture date with Abingdon United Devs and the competition, but the opponents would not delay the fixture into September or October having arranged the tie as part of their pr-season campaign, even though the competition was happy to do so. We did contemplate putting the Devs onto the game but at such short notice it would have been impossible to put a competitive side out.
