Weekend Preview – Saturday 20th April 2024

The Don enter the final five games of the Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League Division One season, with the first of two meetings this week with Marlborough Town. On Saturday, we travel into Wiltshire for a 15:00 KO.

Last weekends fixture with Kingsdown Development was cancelled by the league, to allow their first team to catch-up with fixtures and despite us offering the use of Tucker Park, the Kingsdown Development management disappointingly did not wish to travel.

This weeks opponents sit in fourth position after being relegated from the Premier Division last season and are looking for an immediate return. They dropped out of the three promotion spots in midweek, as Purton’s victory at Cricklade saw then leapfrog over Town.

This will be the first meeting of the sides, who then face-off again next Saturday at Tucker Park. Town have a record of fourteen wins, two draws and six defeats from twenty-two league ties. They have managed to find the back of the net on seventy four occasions, conceding forty-one. They have the joint leading goal-scorer in their ranks, with Jake Farrell finding the back of the net twenty-four times in sixteen league games., however he has not featured since the beginning of March.

The Don sit in second position, five points clear of the home side, however we do also have a game in hand and will be looking to break clear of the fourth placed side with three points. With a visit from Lambourn Sports on Tuesday evening to Tucker Park, sandwiched between these two Marlborough ties, its an important week in The Don’s hopes of the title and promotion.

The Don Squad From: Jack Gibson, Jamie Arlott, Harry Timbrell, Luke Smith, Liam Hares, Ray Lovell, Josh Forth, Mitch Coombes, George James, Jamie Tuck, Matt Pill, Jamie Broadfield, Morgan Watts, Kyle Bowyer.

Town Devs are back in Hartwell sponsored Witney & District League Division Two action on Saturday, with Witney Royals Reserves the visitors to Tucker Park – KO 14:15.

The Devs have been without any league actions for a couple of weeks and will be looking to make the most of their games in hand to catch the sides above them in the promotion places. Fourth placed Town are twelve points behind second placed CHQ Utd, but with four games in hand. However, Wootton Sports who are sandwiched in third are five points clear of Town, seven behind CHQ, but have five games in hand.

Tomorrow’s opponents, currently sit second from bottom in the relegation positions. Having gained twelve points from nineteen league games, they have struggled to find the net and stop shots from entering their goal. They have scored only twenty eight, but conceded seventy five from their three wins, three draws and thirteen defeats. With seven games to go, they will be looking to spring a surprise and gain a valuable three points at Tucker Park.

The two sides met in the reverse fixture in the last tie before the Christmas break, when Town came away with a 3-2 on the road victory, courtesy of goals from Andy Goodchild, Andy Makepeace and Mason Thomas.

It’s a tie Town A will be looking to close the gap on their opponents, who sit immediately above twelfth placed Town A, in thirteenth with a five point advantage.

Eynsham have take twenty five points from their twenty one league games, winning eight, drawing just the once and being defeated twelve times. They have conceded sixty two goals so far, but found the back of the net on forty occasions. Three of the goals they have conceded came in the reverse fixture, when Town A ran out 3-0 victors in February with Will MacPherson grabbing a double, with Chris Rutt finishing off the scoring.
