The installation of the new fencing around the main Faringdon Town FC pitch this week has raised a few questions we would like to address.
The fencing has been installed with the full consent of the town council and the Tucker Park Trust. The reason for the fencing is to improve facilities and to maximise the safety of players.
The park is heavily used by the public and dog walkers. The new perimeter fence will separate players, coaches and officials from the general public whilst matches are in progress ensuring the safety of both groups.
Dog fouling is an increasing problem and extremely hazardous to our players. We hope the fence will reduce the instances of dogs freely running and fouling on the pitch. When games are in progress it will stop dogs from entering the pitch and chasing both the ball and players.
The fence is the next step in improving the overall facilities at our club. We have recently totally refurbished the clubhouse and added a new patio area. The changing rooms have also been rebuilt.
It is hoped the improved facilities we provide will encourage more local players to join our club, instead of travelling further afield to play. Faringdon is a fast-growing town and our wish is to provide a first-class facility for our growing community.
There are two large gaps in the fence at either end of the pitch making the area fully accessible to the public while games are not being played. We would like to reassure the community that Tucker Park is still and will always be open to all, but we would like to politely remind owners to be responsible with regards to picking up after their dogs, as dog faeces is also a health risk to our players.
