RELENTLESS
Faringdon Town Blues FC 2 (0) v Wantage Town 3 (2)
Knowing that the Blues were up against the top team in our league, we set up in a confident and disciplined lineup. From the whistle the Blues maintained great pressure, pinning Wantage in their half. Unfortunately, they took advantage of 2 quick breaks and scored 2 goals. From the sidelines, we could only place our heads in our hands as Wantage miraculously cleared off their goal line 3 times.
Halftime Rob and l just encouraged, encouraged and encouraged to keep going as the goals will come.
True enough the Blues pushed them into their goal area again and were rewarded with Owen Smith striking a great 20-yard lob over the bus Wantage had parked and their goalkeeper to score a cracking goal.
Shortly after, Wantage playing from the back, passed the ball well to create their 3rd goal.
Keeping their heads high, a clinical pass set up Chloe just outside the box to dribble the ball past 3 players to bury our 2nd goal.
The Blues continued fighting and had yet another goal saved off the line but the equaliser just didn’t come.
Wantage’s manager and Richie the referee both complemented the Blues by describing the team performance as being RELENTLESS.
Player of the match was another tricky decision but having shown great determination and excellent close ball control it was awarded to Dylan.
This was our first defeat but Rob and l are so proud of a great determined team performance.
