Faringdon Town 1-4 Fairford Res –
Another wet Saturday afternoon as The Don entertained Fairford Res. After the previous game against Thame, Town were confident they could get themselves a positive result. Faringdon started well playing some good passes short and long, the first real attack saw Christian Wills hit a good shot that was saved resulting in a corner. From this corner town took the early lead, Josh Forth with a run across the front post and heading the ball home town 1-0 up.
Within 5 minutes Fairford had equalised, a corner for them saw their centre back get a run on our defence and had a easy header. 1-1.
Town got back on the ball and looked good, both sides matching each other but town looked abit sharper. 30 mins gone and a miss placed pass allowed the Fairford forward one on one with Towns keeper, he rounded him and just as he was going to slide the ball in the net, centre back Louis Bowers made a great sliding challenge certainly saving a goal. From this tackle Fairford had another corner. The result was the same as the first, pretty much carbon copy!! Town 2-1 down.
Half time
The team spoke about turning the situation round and seemed keen. Faringdon started ok but looked a little sluggish. 10 minutes in and another corner was conseaded, resulting in the same as the first half, a goal for fairford. Town found themselves 3-1 down from 3 corners!!! After being 1 up and finding themselves 3-1 down the stuffing knocked out of them, this led to more simple mistakes from The Don, with their heads down Fairford got their 4th late on.
Final whistle 1-4
Overall disappointed with the result and the way we played. First 30 minutes we looked good. Need to start learning from our mistakes and quickly, shouldn’t be conceding the goals we are at the moment and need to sharpen up. Perhaps the early goal got us over confident, a lesson to be learned. Hoping the disappointment of the result will spur us on for next week!!!!
