The senior section has it’s final fixtures before the festive break, whilst it is only the under 15’s from the youth section in action, with the other sides enjoying their Christmas break.
The 1st Team will travel to Abingdon, looking to revenge their highest defeat of the season, when they play Saxton Rovers at the Saxton Road Ground at 2.00pm on Saturday afternoon in NBFL Division 1. The two sides met only last month, which saw Town lose 10-0, despite only being 1-0 down at half time and since that result a lot of soul searching has certainly took place. Rovers have continued their good form and currently sit in second position, one point behind leaders Berinsfield FC, having played the same number of fixtures. Rovers last four league and cup score lines have seen them bag 29 goals and concede only 2, with Tom Stanley leading the way with 10 goals from 11 fixtures, including four last weekend. Town will have a number of absentees for the match, but will hope to give a battling performance and restore some pride from the home defeat.
The Reserves have what can only be described as a six pointer this weekend, as they entertain bottom side Marcham FC at Tucker Park in NBFL Division 2, kick off 2.00pm. Town sit second bottom, one point to the good and having played the same the number of fixtures. The visitors have picked up one point from their last five league fixtures, whilst Town have exactly the same record but have found goals a struggle, with just three coming in the 4-3 defeat to Westminster to their record. With the likelihood of only one side to be relegated, both sides will want to go into the Christmas break on a positive. Town have a number of players stepping up into the 1st Team, but know those from the A’s are more than capable of gaining a result.
The A Team are also looking to stop the rot, however they face an equally difficult task, with promotion candidates Lambourn Sports Reserves the visitors to Tucker Park in NBFL Division 4, kick off 2.00pm. The two sides met in October at the Land of Horses with Sports running out 2-0 victors. Town are on a run of five fixtures without a win or points, sitting third bottom and with the visitors fourth and in the hunt for promotion, this will be no easy task. Adam Day is the visitors leading scorer, with 7 goals from 11 league and cup fixtures, whilst Town’s young squad will be hoping under 17 leading striker Jack Traynor can starting finding the next in his step up to senior football.
The under 15’s are the only youth side in action on Sunday morning, kick off in this C League fixtures with Crowmarsh Youth the visitors is at 10.30am. Town sit fourth and Youth 3rd, however Town are four points in arrears but have three games in hand, so the victors will have an opportunity to apply pressure on the top two.
