Weekend Preview – Saturday 27th April 2024
Its a case of Déjà vu for The Don on Saturday in Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League Division One, with a second meeting with Marlborough Town after triumphing 5-1 at Elcot Lane last Saturday. Kick off at Tucker Park is 15:00. Last weekends fixture saw The Don race into a 4-0 lead within 41 minutes as Kyle Bowyer and Morgan Watts hit doubles. An early strike from Marlborough gave them hope in the second half, but soon after Josh Forth restored the four goal advantage and Town took the victory.
Sandwiched in between these two fixtures was a midweek home tie with Lambourn Sports at Tucker Park, in what was a poor The Don showing and dogged defending from the visitors, ending in a 1-1 draw, Liam Hares equalising towards the end of the first half. With Bratton FC and Park Utd meeting on the same night, drawing 1-1 and Purton scoring a late equaliser away at Kingsdown FC Devs, its as you were in the league table going into Saturday’s matches.
Following last weeks defeat, Marlborough slipped to fifth position and will be seeking revenge and wanting three points to give them any hope of gaining a promotion spot. With a record of fourteen wins, two draws and seven defeats from twenty-three league ties, they have managed to find the back of the net on seventy five occasions, conceding forty-six. They have one of the divisions hot-shots in their ranks, with Jake Farrell finding the back of the net twenty-four times in sixteen league games., however he has not featured since the beginning of March.
The Don sit in second position, three points off of leaders Park Utd, with a game in hand, who are on their travels to sixth placed Devizes Town Res in a rearranged fixture, after the initial tie was abandoned following an injury to the match official. Third placed Purton FC, a further three points behind The Don, travel to Pewsey Vale Devs. The Don know that three points on Saturday will give them a great chance of securing promotion and then they can think about the league title. Less than three points, puts the pressure on The Don’s last two league games and promotion.

Town Devs are in Hartwell sponsored Witney & District League Division Two action on Saturday, with a little trip to Bampton Town FC to take on Siege FC, where the tie at Buckland Road kicks off at 15:30.
The Devs come into the game full of confidence after demolishing Witney Royals Reserves 10-1 at Tucker Park last Saturday. Leading scorer Rich Evans grabbed a hat-trick, Adam Sly hit a double, whilst Pete Fletcher, Andy Makepeace, Justin Yates, manager Robbie Harrington all had successful strikes whilst keeper Ethan Thompson notched a penalty to complete the scoring. The victory cemented the Devs fourth placed position and continued their faint hopes of a promotion place.
Tomorrow’s opponents, currently sit seventh, having gained twenty-two points from eighteen league games, being something of a draw specialist, with seven so far, five wins and six defeats, scoring forty-three and conceding forty-one. One of those draws came at Tucker Park as the Devs found themselves 4-1 down at half time, before storming back in the second half to gain a 4-4 draw with goals from Rich Evans, Adam Sly, Pete Fletcher and Tom Walsham. Siege’s men to watch are Chris Hirons with eleven goals from eleven league games and Jonathan Dover who notched a double at Tucker Park, towards gaining nine goals in only seven appearances.
With third placed Wootton Sports due at Tucker Park next weekend, Town will want to come away with the three points to continue their positive run of form.

Stonesfield sit in ninth position, with twelfth placed Town hoping to gain revenge for last months 3-1 home defeat, where Chris Rutt’s strike was in vain after the early sending off of Dan Pugh. Stonesfield have nine victories, three draws and eleven defeats from their twenty-three league games, scoring forty-two and conceding forty-four. Jonny Newton is the home sides top-scorer with six goals from eleven appearances.
Town A are ten points adrift and will be looking to put a run of positive results from their final three league games of the season.
