After last weekend’s 2-0 away Berks & Bucks County Cup defeat to South Reading, Town are in the cup again this weekend, as fellow Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League Division One side Purton FC make the short journey to Tucker Park. The tie is in the Third Round of the Fountain Trophies Senior League Cup with a quarter-final place at stake in this 14:00 kick-off.
To reach this round of the competition, both sides had byes in the First Round and comfortable victories in Round Two. Purton triumphed 5-2 at Stratton Juniors, whilst The Don were victorious at Tucker Park with a 7-0 win over Wroughton Devs with goals courtesy of a Jamie Broadfield hat-trick and single strikes from Sam Leech, Jamie Tuck, Pete Fletcher, and top-scorer Kyle Bowyer.
The two sides have met already at Tucker Park in the league, with Town coming away with a 3-2 victory with goals coming from Josh Forth, Liam Hares and again Kyle Bowyer. However, whilst Bowyer has found the net for The Don (eleven in eleven games), Purton have their own hotshot in the experienced player/manager Matt Bennett who has found the net sixteen times in eleven league and cup encounters. With The Don currently at the top of Division One and Purton occupying the third spot, another close encounter is expected in this cup tie.

Town Dev’s find themselves back on the road this weekend, following the cancellation of last Saturday’s home fixtures due to waterlogged Tucker Park play surfaces. They are back in Witney & District League Division Two action, hoping to cement their top-half position within the league table as they face Freeland FC who currently find themselves in the lower half of the table. Freeland are currently in tenth position in the fourteen-team league, with two wins and five defeats from their seven league games.
Their last league tie saw them collect their second three points of the season, with a narrow 1-0 victory over Milton under Wychwood Reserves, with Paul Inch grabbing the all-important goal. Joey Burgess is currently the club’s leading goal-scorer with five goals from just three ties, which included a hat-trick claiming their other three points in a 5-3 away win at Chadlington Reserves.
The Dev’s will be hoping to build some momentum before going into the Christmas break, currently sit in fifth position on fifteen points, knowing a victory will keep them within touching distance of the sides currently occupying the promotion places. The A’s are also back on the road, as they travel to Oxford to face the B’s of Yarnton FC. Town travels down the A420 knowing a victory will see them close the gap on their opposition in the Witney & District League Division Three. Town are currently sitting in tenth position with two victories and a draw with seven points from eight league games.
The home club are three positions higher in seventh, but six points more collected with four victories and one draw from seven league ties. Yarnton have a game or two in hand over the sides above them in the league table and will be not wanting to lose touch with the promotion places.
