Match Preview – Wednesday 26/10/18 – Faringdon Town Vets v Abingdon Town Vets

Sep 25, 2018 | Weekend Preview

The Vets continue their league campaign Wednesday night after having a week off, allowing the squad time to lick their wounds after the disappointing defeat to Chinnor A last time out. With no fixture scheduled for next week, the Vets management will be looking for the squad to put everything on the line to put their season back on track.

This week the side are at home (Fairford Town) and entertain most peoples favourites for the title, Abingdon Town Vets to the Cinder Lane Stadium. Abingdon were previously Oxford City, who Town faced last season in the Vets Cup semi-final, losing a very tight affair 1-0. Abingdon have started with a 100% record, beating Aylesbury Vets 4-0 and following up with a 1-0 defeat over Witney Royals last Wednesday. The Abingdon squad is made up of a number of former Hellenic and Saxton Rovers favourites, so all well known to the Town squad.

Town will be looking to bounce back from the Chinnor fixture and know if they are to stand a chance of being competitive in the Premier Division, they have to compete and challenge the top sides, which Abingdon Town no doubt are. Town are sitting in mid-table and Abingdon in second prior to the 7.45pm kick and the squad will be hoping for a good following from the Faringdon faithful! Andy Lynham is out for 4-6 weeks with a cracked rib, whilst Phil Thompson is unavailable for two weeks, so Steve Pugh comes back into the team and Craig Gaynor will make his first appearance of the season.

Squad From: Lee Ruddle, Gary Sutton, Damian Francis, Steve Pugh, Pat Graham, Glenn Townsend, Chris Roche, Chris Pettis, Paul Smith, Craig Gaynor, Dave Legg, Ben Spencer, Anthony McCusker, Colin Yates, Paul Hulme, Gav Stevens
