Match Report: Kidlington Res v Faringdon Town –
Faringdon Town made the journey to high-flying Kidlington on a Monday night for 7.45 kick off, lovely ground and under floodlights, perfect for a good game of football.
It was a good start from Town, putting passes together on a slippery pitch. We looked particularly good on the counter with our wide men getting a lot of ball. From a good counter Christian Wills found himself in on goal, but the keeper came out and made a challenge and got nowhere near the ball, it should of been a red card, but didn’t even get booked!
Kidlington were playing some lovely triangle passes, one touch football and opening up angles around the box. Town were defending hard and keeping a good shape which meant Kidlington were forced into long shots. Town took the lead from sucking up the pressure and countering. A ball played wide from Will Bazen into Ross Packham before being played into Rob Owen in the centre of the pitch, he found Sam Gorham who played a great one two with Chris Wills, he took a touch into the box and smashed the ball into the roof of the net. The best team goal Faringdon have scored for years. Five minutes later Town got a second, the Kidlington centre back miss-judged a header. Matty Pill ran on too it, leaving left him one on one with the keeper, he took it round him before placing his left foot shot from a tight angle into the back of the net. Town 2-0 up.
We were now buzzing and looked confident. We then managed to get the next goal, a clearance from Kidlington keeper went straight to Sam Gorham 30 yards out who hit it first time into the corner of the net with the keeper scrambling across. 3-0 up, we managed to take the shoreline into half time.

We knew Kidlington would come at us hard after the break so has a good chat about it. Five minutes into the half and we conceded, our forward held the ball up well and played it back to our centre back who got caught out by their left winger, he beat a couple of players before slotting into the bottom corner, 3-1. This started the panic, Kidlington were coming on strong. We were pegged back in our half for what seemed an eternity and it wasn’t long before Kidlington got another. A great pass, split our centre backs which was picked up by the right-winger, who had been a handful all game, latched on to it and smashed it top corner – 3-2!
Last 15 mins was backs to wall stuff. Faringdon did manage to created one more chance on the counter for sub Harry Platt but it wasn’t to be. We managed to see the last few minutes out and came away with a smash and grab victory!!

All credit to the lads who worked the hardest we have done all season, the shape and discipline was superb aswell as a great attitude and desire to win. Every single player should be proud, one of the best wins for a number of years.
