It’s a full fixture list for the youths and seniors this weekend, including semi finals for sides.
Tenth placed Town 1st Team will be hoping a win over 9th placed East Hendred, will give them the momentum to catch their opponents, who currently have a six point advantage in NBFL Division 1. The two sides met in September at Tucker Park, where Town collected three of their current six point total, through Derren Harrington & Tommy James strikes. The home side have collected points recently with two draws with Crowmarsh Gifford and a close 4-3 victory over basement side Dorchester FC. Town are without George Hegg & Martyn Gatehouse for this fixture, but their squad is still strong enough to take the three points and finish the season on a high from their remaining six fixtures. Kick off at Mill Lane is 2.30pm.
Town Reserves are once again in cup semi final action and will be wanting to put last weekends disappointing performance and result behind them, when they face East Hendred Reserves from NBFL Division 4 at Grove Rangers FC in the AG Kingham Cup. Kick off at the Recreation Ground is 2.30pm and Town need to find the form which saw them claim four wins and a draw prior to last weekends defeat. Hendred Reserves are having a successful season from their experienced squad, having already reached the League Cup Final and they are competing for the Division 4 title, currently sitting in second position, with only two league defeats from 13 fixtures. Town will be without Phil Thompson (away) & Nathan Peters (foot) for the match, but it’s hoped the squad can perform and reach a cup final.
Town A Team are still fighting for their NBFL Division 4 survival and know this weekends fixture with Wallingford Town Reserves will be no easy feat. Wally Reserves defeated Town Reserves last weekend in the Nairne Paul Trophy semi final with an impressive first half performance. Town A know they will need to improve on last weekends defeat by Long Wittenham Reserves, if they are to claim any points at Tucker Park, in this 2.30pm kick off. In the repeat fixture in September, Town succumbed to a 3-0 defeat, with skipper Craig Passey and a top scorer Mikey Bone double claiming the three points. Town should be bolstered by the return of keeper Chris Webb and skipper Damian Francis.
The Development squads are in action on Saturday morning, with the under 8’s welcoming St Edmunds Royals to Tucker Park in the Spring G League, kick off 10.30pm. The under 9’s take to the road, travelling along the A420 towards Oxford to face Quarry Rovers Inklings at 11.30am in the Spring F League. The under 10’s travel to Kennington Athletic Green in the Knockout Trophy semi final, kick off 10.30am, so good luck lads!
Moving onto Sunday and the under 12’s are in Knockout Trophy semi final action, with Hinksey Park International the visitors to Tucker Park, kicking off at 12.30pm. the two sides are both in the Spring C League, and have met last month, with Town winning a tight encounter 2-1.
Its a top of the table clash at Tucker Park at 10.30am for the under 13’s, as league leaders Abingdon Youth face third placed Town. The two sides are separated by six points, however Town have two games in hand. The sides did meet in January, where Abingdon ran out 5-2 victors.
Third placed Town under 15’s, make the journey into Berkshire on Saturday morning, as they challenge league leaders Goring Robins. Town sit six points adrift, but with two fixtures in hand will hope a win will put them in the primary position after 70 minutes football and only four fixtures remaining.
Fourth placed Town under 16’s make the journey to Oxford City, hoping to continue their recent run of form and knowing a win will put pressure on the sides currently occupying the promotion places. City sit in seventh position with 10 points from eight fixtures.
And finally, the under 17’s face their final fixture before the B League is split Scottish football style. They face pointless Summertown Athletic at Cutteslowe Park, having already claimed a top tier position in the proposed Spring league split. A win for Town will see them climb two positions to fourth.
