All three senior sides were in action at the weekend, whilst the under 9’s & 15’s were in action from the youth section.
The 1st Team travelled to championship chasing Lambourn Sports, with the bare eleven, whilst manager Darryl Curtis went on the bench, following a couple of late drop outs. The home side scored within two minutes of the kick off and stretched their lead to 3-0 by the half time interval. To the teams credit, after a change in formation and the introduction of Curtis, Town were the better side in the second period and whilst neither side scored, it was much improved and gives the squad something to build on, for the upcoming fixtures.
Town Reserves were also stretched squad wise, with Steventon FC the visitors in NBFL Division 2. With Town languishing at the foot of the table, they have to start collecting points and the squad put in a very good display on an ever worsening playing surface. Town took the lead on 30 minutes, through Matty Hickson, before the visitors equalised on the stroke of half time. The second period was very even, with Town again taking the lead through a Dave Cole header, however they conceded straight from kick off. Despite a late push from Town, including the introduction of veteran manager Martin Harries, Town couldn’t quite snatch the victory and settled for a share of the points.
The A Team took their young squad to league leaders Stanford ITV Reserves in NBFL Division 4, knowing they were in for a tough afternoon. However, the squads never say die attitude was in full affect as they pushed the leaders all way before losing 2-1. Steve Pugh who was brought out of retirement, had a game full of incident as he conceded a penalty, scored an own goal and put in a man of the match performance as he bossed the midfield battle! Town scored a great goal, through Jason Evans who took his season tally to 12.
The under 9’s travelled to Radley Youth on Saturday morning for a Development fixture and again put in a spirited display, showing big improvements in their skill levels.
The under 15’s travelled to Quarry Rovers on Sunday morning in the C League, with Town 4th and Rovers 5th. Town came away with the three points following an excellent 4-1 away victory, a result which see’s Town jump to third position, with games in hand on the top two.
