It’s a full programme of league fixtures for the senior sides, whilst the youth section will have only two sides in action this weekend, due to the school half term.
Town 1st Team will be hoping to keep 11 players on the park and the scoreline down, as they travel to Lambourn Sports in NBFL Division 1. Kick Off at Brockhampton Road is 2.30pm and with the two sides having met only 2 weekends ago, Town know they have to be on their toes to get any kind of result. In the previous encounter, Town took an early lead and were in the Charity Shield tie, until keeper Ryan Curtis saw red, for handling outside of the area, so proof is there that the squad is capable of matching the title chasers. Town will hope to have two new signings in the squad, to further deepen the strength in depth, after impressing at recent training sessions. The hosts will be hoping to make their games in hand on the league leaders count, as they look to close the gap. Town will have Adam Sly and Dan Oyston missing this weekend.
The Reserves are back in league action after picking up a morale boosting victory in the AG Kingham Cup at Watlington Town Reserves, last weekend. Kick off at Tucker Park on Saturday is 2.30pm, with Steventon FC the visitors in NBFL Division 2. When the sides met in the reverse fixture prior to Christmas, the match was a tight affair, until two mistakes in the final 10 minutes saw Steventon take the three points with a 2-0 victory. Town occupy the bottom spot of the table, whilst the visitors have risen to fifth after recent results, including a 5-1 win over Marcham FC, two weeks ago. Town’s plans have been hit by player unavailability, keeper Ryan Curtis is suspended, so veteran Chris Webb steps in for an appearance, plus Phil Thompson, Max Scholefield, Nathan Peters & Colin Yates are missing for the weekend.
The A Team are finally on the road in NBFL Division 4 this weekend, however the three mile journey to league leaders Stanford ITV Reserves is hardly gruelling, for this 2.30pm kick off. When the sides met at Tucker Park, early in the season, Stanford ran out 4-2 winners, however the A’s gave an excellent account of themselves and certainly gave Stanford something to think about. Stanford come into the match, on a down turn of form, with 3 league and cup defeats in 4 fixtures, however they are still heavy favourites going into the tie. Town are still without a number of players for the match, however the management team will use the full resources available, with the under 17’s squad being used.
Onto the youth section and the under 9’s Development squad will travel to the outskirts of Abingdon to face Radley Youth at Thrupp Lane.
And finally, the only other youth side in action is the under 15’s, who travel to Quarry Rovers on Sunday morning for a 10.30am kick off. Town currently sit in 4th position, with Rovers in 5th and a win will see Town create a gap from the sides below them.
