Although we did face some postponements over the weekend, some of our sides did manage to get some game time on Saturday & Sunday.
The 1st & Reserve sides both faced cancellations on Saturday, however the A’s went to Blewbury FC, looking to spring a surprise, with the hosts looking to gain promotion from NBFL Division 4. Town faced an early onslaught, with keeper James Lee pulling off a number of excellent saves. As the match went on, Town grew into the game on an ever worsening playing surface and midway into the second half, full back Andy Capper drove a shot across the keeper and into the far corner of the net. The home side immediately pushed for an equaliser, with Town trying to use the counter attack. However, with the final kick of the game, Blewbury did make their pressure pay as they finally managed to beat Lee, when a cross was met by the advancing striker to slot home and share the points.
On to the Youth section, the under 8’s and 9’s faced postponements, however the under 10’s entertained Mansfield Road FC at midday on Saturday. The visitors went away with a 3-1 victory, in a game where Town never really got going, on a playing surface which ended up is a terrible state.
Onto Sunday and some last minute pitch marking, enabled the under 12’s to welcome Didcot Town Youth White in the OMYL Spring B League. The two sides battled right to the end, with the visitors having most of the first half and Town taking control in the second half, but neither side could find the net, ending 0-0.
The under 13’s match was postponed with the Tucker Park pitch, unable to play two fixtures on the same pitch unfortunately. The under 15’s & 16’s away fixtures were also postponed by the away side.
The under 17’s went to top of the table Summertown United and took the home side by surprise and took an early lead. Unfortunately, this sprung the leaders into life and they lead 4-3 at half time, before winning 8-4 in a match where the scorleine probably flattered the league leaders.
