All the senior sides are in action this weekend, whilst the youth sides all have league and cup fixtures……..
Town 1st Team will be hoping to pick up some valuable points this weekend, as they travel to Long Wittenham Athletic in NBFL Division 1, looking to build on the last weekends performance.
Town sit one place below Athletic in 10th on 3 points, whilst the home side have five points but having played one game more, so a win would see Town jump one position at least. The visitors travel on the back of a 3-0 away win at Mortimer FC in the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup, with veteran Tim Barton among the goals. Town will have so bodies back after last week, with Liam Humphreys & skipper Mark Simpkins available, whilst striker Tommy McCulloch is given his chance after impressing for the Reserves. Kick off tomorrow at Bodkins Sports Field is 2.30pm, where Athletic won 1-0 last season, whilst the sides shared the points at Tucker Park 2-2.
The Reserves will want to put last weekends disappointing league result behind them as they entertain Letcombe Reserves from the Hellenic West Division 2 in the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup, kick off 2.30pm. The visitors are managed by former Town player Matt Clark, whilst they could have Rob Owen, Dan Courtenay & James Tyler, all former Town players on the field in purple for this fixture. Letcombe have so far failed to win a competitive match, but with them being from a higher league, Town are taking the challenge seriously and wanting to progress in the competition. The squad see’s Ryan Sharps and forward Dave Cole available for selection, whilst Phil Thompson is recalled from the A’s after impressing last time out.
Joint managers, Nick Wojcik & Paul Hulme will be hoping to build on last weekends first win of the season, when they travel to Wallingford Town ‘A’ in the League Cup. Town have managed to reach the final the last two seasons and the management duo will be wanting the side to continue the winning streak. Wallingford are a new side to the NBFL, joining the club as a mix of old and young heads, similar to our own side and despite the home side being in the league below, this is going to be no easy task. The Division 5 side have had a mixbag of results so far, with 2 wins and 3 defeats in their league campaign. Kick off at The Hithercroft is 2.30pm
The junior section is now in full swing and on Saturday morning the three development sides are all in action with two matches at Tucker Park. The under 8’s kick off at 10.30am, with East Oxford United the visitors. This is followed by the under 9’s who welcome Harwell & Hendred Youth Blue for a 12.00pm kick off. The under 10’s are on their travels to Hinksey Park Hawks for a 12.00
The under 12’s are in County Cup action as they travel to Thatcham Tornadoes on Sunday afternoon, looking to build on their first league victory last time out. Kick off 2.00pm
The under 13’s are also in the County Cup, when Thatcham Town Harriers visit Tucker Park for a 2.00pm kick off. Town will hope to have bodies back after their first defeat in two seasons.
The under 15’s are also at home, welcoming Marston Saints in the C League to Tucker Park for a 10.30am Sunday morning kick off. Saints sit bottom, two places below Town.
The under 16’s are without a competitive fixture.
And finally, the under 17’s are at home in a local derby, with Clanfield (85) FC the visitors for a 2.00pm kick off. Town have won both of their league fixtures, whilst Clanfield are also unbeaten with a draw and three wins.
