This weekend, see’s two side’s in county cup action, whilst Tucker Park will host six matches………..
Town v Wantage Town Reserves – KO 3.00pm
Town 1st Team are the first of our sides in County Cup action, when Hellenic League Division 1 East side, Wantage Town Reserves are the visitors to Tucker Park in the Berks & Bucks Saturday Intermediate Cup 2nd Round. the Alfredians Reserves currently sit in mid-table with nine points, following three wins and six defeats from their opening league fixtures, scoring 13 and conceding 20 goals. They have won only once in their last six matches, but did run league leaders Finchampstead close last time out, losing 1-0. Their main goal threat appears to be from skipper Adam Cashin-Murray, who has scored 5 times in 9 matches.
Town have just one win from their opening four league fixtures and will see this fixture as a means of trying new formations and the pressure is certainly off, against higher league opposition. Town welcome back Jamie Hopgood and Dom Wills who were missing last weekend, but skipper Mark Simpkins and in-form Tommy James are unavailable.
Kintbury Rangers Reserves v Reserves – KO 2.30pm
Town Reserves make another long journey, this time to Berkshire as they look to win a third league fixture on the bounce in NBFL Division 2. Rangers Reserves have become somewhat of a bogie side for Town Reserves after numerous league and cup encounters and Town appearing to be on the losing end of the result, time and time again. the sides met three times last season, Rangers winning 3-1, 4-1 & 4-2 (AET), however this season Town Reserves are a much changed side. Town currently sit 6th and Rangers 9th, with two points the difference. Town will welcome back striker Dan Oyston to the squad, but Ryan Sharps is unavailable.
A Team v Drayton Reserves – KO 2.30pm
The A’s will be hoping to put their opening results behind them as the two bottom and pointless sides in NBFL Division 4, look to break their duck for the season at Tucker Park. Town have found goals hard to come by so far and it’s hoped the young members of the squad will continue to grow and improve into senior the football. The Wasps four opening league and cup fixtures has seen 30 goals, whilst the A’s have conceded fourteen but scoring only once. The two sides met last season on three occasions with an even share of the results 0-1, 6-0 & 2-2, with both sides in the lower reaches of the division.
Saturday will see the two of the three development sides in action on Saturday morning at Tucker Park. At 10.00am the under 10’s entertain Summertown Cobra’s, whilst the under 8’s play afterwards at 12.00pm, with Barton United the visitors. The under 9’s are without a fixture.
The under 12’s & 13’s are without a fixture this weekend, so the spotlight is on the under 15’s, who welcome Thatcham Tornadoes to Tucker Park at 2.30pm on Sunday in the Berks & Bucks Minor Cup for their age group.
The under 16’s travel to Witney to face Freeland FC in the B League, the hosts sit bottom of the table without a point, whilst Town sit two places higher, but having played one game less with three points. Kick off is 2.00pm
And finally, the under 17’s are also in cup action as they face the difficult task of entertaining Abingdon United under 18’s in the League U17/18 Cup. Town have a 100% record, but their older opponents sit second in their own league, with two wins and a defeat, kick off 2.00pm
