Weekend Preview – Faringdon Town Football Club

Faringdon Town travel to Highworth, Reserves and A-Team in action at Tucker Park.

The 1st Team, make the short trip to play Highworth Town Reserves for a 2.15pm KO. The teams met in December with the Don running out 4-0 winners in a feisty encounter. Highworth had 3 players dismissed that day. Faringdon counted themselves lucky with the scoreline, as the match was a far closer affair, with the Don breaking to score 3 first-half goals.

In the league, the teams are only separated by a single point, although Highworth have played two more games. Faringdon sit 4th on 25 points with Highworth in 5th with 24! So its looks like a tight game could be played out at the Recreation Ground. Ellis McSherry is top scorer for Highworth with 7 in 10 games. The Don have shared to scoring this season and have had 14 different scorers.

Highworth beat Shrivenham Res 6-0 last week, while the Don played out a hard-fought 0-0 with Bishops Cleeve Dev (match report)

Faringdon Town Reserves have a rare home fixture this week. This will be only their 3rd league game at Tucker Park this season! The visitors are Benson Lions who currently sit bottom of Div 2 on goal difference, with the Ressers 2nd bottom courtesy of conceding 1 less goal. Both teams will see this game as a chance to double their points tally. The Ressers played title-chasing Ardington last week, losing a tight game 4-2 in the end. Goals came from Richard Evans and Mark Loveridge. Benson lost 1-0 to Lambourn Sport in the North Berks Cup. (2 pm KO)

Faringdon Town A-Team, also have a home fixture with Appleford the visitors. The teams only meet last week, as only the NBFL can work-out the fixtures. That game finished 2-2 thanks to a last-gasp equaliser for Appleford. Dan Pugh’s team are fighting hard every week and will be hopeful of taking all 3 points this week. (2 pm KO)
