Match Preview – Wednesday 13th March 2017 – Witney Royals v Faringdon Town Vets

So the weather beat us again last week, as The Bourne playing surface was deemed unfit to see us take on Old Hooky. This week, we play Witney Royals in the Uhlsport Hellenic Premier Division, looking to apply pressure on the top two and get good preparation for our cup semi final next week. The game has been switched to the Cinder Lane Stadium for a 7.45pm kick off.

The two sides have met twice in the cup and league, with both sides picking up a win a piece. The first meeting saw Royals pick up the victory in the Group Stages of the Vets Cup, winning 3-1 at Clanfield FC, Craig Gaynor netting. However, Town gained their first victory over the Royals with a 2-1 league win at Cinder Lane with Colin Yates and Chris Roche finding the back of the net.

Royals have found the transition from Division One harder than Town, with both sides gaining promotion last season. Town sit in third position on 13 points from eight fixtures, scoring 11 and conceding 11. Whilst Royals are bottom of the division with 5 points from eight fixtures, scoring 7 and conceding 15. A win for Royals will put pressure on those above them and can only hope the top two drop points.

The squad is missing striker Chris Roche & winger Andy Lynham (Injury), but Glenn Townsend & Ben Spencer are both fit and included in the 16 man side.

Squad From: Lee Ruddle, Gary Sutton, Damian Francis, Phil Thompson, Paul Smith, Anthony McCusker, Troy Redman, Chris Pettis, Glenn Townsend, Steve Pugh, Dave Legg, Paul Hulme, Liam Humphreys, Colin Yates, Patrick Graham, Ben Spencer.
