Saturday Preview – 20th January 2024

The Don will be hoping to show their bouncebackability this weekend, as they look to return to form following the disappointing performance and result away to Purton FC last Saturday, succumbing to a 2-0 defeat.

This Saturday The Don squad make the journey to Chippenham to take on second positioned Park United, with kick off at Stanley Park 14:15. United will come into this Corsham Print Wiltshire Senior League Division One tie on the back of a hard fought 1-0 victory over lowly Kingsdown Development, courtesy of a Ben Pring finish. The victory saw them close the gap to top of the table The Don to five points, with a game in hand.

The two sides met at the end of September at Tucker Park, when Park travelled back along the A420 and M4 with the three points, taking a 2-1 victory, with The Don’s goal coming from Liam Hares. The victory saw Park leap above us to the league summit at the time and finished our 100% winning start to the season. Saturday’s tie will see the tightest defences in the division meet and with along way to go until the end of the season, whilst the three points on offer are important, it will not define the final league positions.

Town are without Josh Forth and Mitch Coombes for the game due to unavailability, however the depth of the squad has proven it’s worth so far this season. Directions to Stanley Park for any Don followers are available here: Faringdon Town Football Club to Stanley Park – Google Maps

The Don are sponsored by (Home Shirt) The Snooty Mehmaan, The Advertiser Magazine & Pickpackplus & (Away Shirt) www.webbgardenpower.co.uk, www.greenworkstools.co.uk & www.thehandy.co.uk and we thank them for their continued support.

Robbie Harrington’s Development squad gained a valuable three points last Saturday, when they overcame an impressive Bourton Rovers at Tucker Park with a 2-1 victory in Hartwell sponsored Witney & District League Division Two. Goals from skipper Martyn Gatehouse and the returning Ronnie Platt, pushed the Devs to fourth position and within touching distance of the promotion places.

On Saturday, the Devs welcome Witney Royals to Tucker Park for a 13:45 kick off. The two sides met in mid-December, where Town grabbed a tight 3-2 victory with goals coming from Andy Makepeace, Andy Goodchild and Mason Thomas. Royals are currently in ninth position with three wins, one draw and nine defeats accumulating ten points along the way, scoring only eighteen league goals, conceding fifty two with the worst defensive record in the division. Royals top goalscorer is the experienced Ian Barrett who has found the back of the net three times in twelve league and cup ties.

Town should go into the tie full of confidence and hopefully start a run of consistent results.

Town Dev’s kindly sponsored by J Godfrey & Son Funeral Services & Las Chicas Faringdon, their support is amazing and we can’t thank them enough.

The A’s started 2024 on a high and managed to grab their third league victory of the season in Hartwell Sponsored Witney & District League Division Three last Saturday, as they overcame basement side Leafield Reserves with a 2-0 home win, following a double from teenage forward Will MacPherson.

This Saturday its back to Tucker Park for twelfth placed Ben Stratford’s men as they welcome local side and ninth positioned Bampton United Reserves. United are just two points ahead of The A’s, however we do have a game in hand. Town have gained eleven points, whilst the visitors have thirteen after a league adjustment, from four victories, two draws and eight defeats. United’s standout goal threat is Alex Timms who has grabbed eight in twelve league and cup games, with the side grabbing twenty four league goals and conceding thirty nine.

In the return fixture on the opening day of the season in September, United grabbed the three points with a close 3-2 win. Paul Eaton and Lestyn Morgan-Jones scored for the A’s and we will be hoping to grab revenge for that defeat. Kick off at Tucker Park is 14:15.

Town A’s a have been lucky to have had the support and sponsorship from Wessex Recovery, another trusted partner of FTFC.
