The 1st Team flew the flag for the seniors sides, whilst our the youth section, continued their push for promotion and titles.
Town 1st Team travelled to Wallingford Town, again lacking in numbers but with a good team spirit they took the game to the home side in the opening half and deservedly took the lead from an excellent Christian Wills finish. The second half saw the home side apply enormous pressure on the Town defence and with a lack of bodies to come off the bench, the side succumbed to two late strikes to lose 2-1.
Moving onto Sunday……
The under 13’s welcomed Crowmarsh Youth Rooks to Tucker Park on Sunday morning, knowing three points would secure promotion to the A League. The side put in a battling performance against third placed Rooks before finally grabbing a 2-1 home win. Promotion to the A League is a massive achievement for the side and it’s hoped with results going their way, they could secure the title this coming Sunday, with only goal difference separating them from Abingdon Youth at the B League summit.
The under 15’s are also on the title charge in the C League and grabbed a vital three points on Sunday, overcoming Crowmarsh Youth Tigers 3-1 on the road. Town are waiting for the outcome of their postponed fixture with Summertown Stars, which would move the side three points clear, if presented with the points. This would then mean only a draw this coming weekend, would secure the trophy, with promotion already confirmed.
The under 16’s are also on a promotion push and grabbed another victory on Sunday afternoon, winning 5-2 at Tucker Park over mid-table Tower Hill. The win was vitally important with Highfield Colts gaining three points following Cropredy being unable to raise a side. The win leaves Town in second, level of points with Highfield, but with a greater goal difference of 8 goals, both with their final fixtures this weekend.
And finally, the under 17’s made yet another trip to Cutteslowe Park in Oxford to face Summertown Stars in the B Premier Division. Town grabbed an impressive 4-2 victory to move them to 3rd position, with only Barton United left to play, who are level on points with Town, so a 3rd placed shoot out!
