On a warm Wednesday evening at Fairford Town’s Cinder Lane Stadium, Town Vets welcomed Benson Lions for our final Hellenic Veterans Division One fixture of the season. Town knew they needed at least a draw to tie up the league title, whilst the visitors were hoping to claim points to lift themselves up the table.
So it’s the final fixture of the Veterans first season of Hellenic Veterans League football on Wednesday 18th April 2018, when they entertain Benson Lions at Fairford Town FC. The Vets require just a single point from the fixture to guarantee the league title and bring home the silverware. The two sides have tried to get this match underway on two previous occasions, only to be thwarted by the ‘Beast from the East’ on both occasions.
It was first versus second last night at Fairford Town’s Cinder Lane Ground, as Town Vets welcomed Watlington Town Old Boys in the Hellenic Veterans Division One League. When the two sides met in the away fixture, Town romped home to a 5-0 victory but going into this fixture they had an almost identical record, however, Old Boys had two games in hand, six points adrift.
Town travelled to Oxford City’s Court Farm Place Ground on Wednesday evening looking to spring a surprise in the Hellenic Veterans Cup Semi Final, competing against Premier Division leaders Oxford City Vets.
Town Vets take a break from their promotion push, with a trip to Court Farm Place, Marsh Lane, Oxford, OX3 0NQ to face Hellenic Veterans Premier Division side, Oxford City Vets in the semi-final of the Veterans Cup. Town were back in action last night after a three-week absence, as they travelled to Milton United’s ground to face Goring United Vets in the Hellenic League Veterans Division 1. The pitch was in very good condition considering the recent poor weather, however, the wind had picked up during the day and with the ground being a very open space, it ruined the match as a spectacle, particularly in the second half.
