Highworth Town Res 1-4 Faringdon Town –
After last weeks result, Town were looking for a big performance. They made a good start, with some decent football being played. The Don’s midfield battled for every ball winning firsts and seconds. The defence were talking and organising plus Rob Owen up top on his own, was getting plenty of balls to feet.
A good move from Faringdon saw them take the lead. Quick feet from Rob Owen in the centre of the pitch saw him release Jordan Wilkins down the left with a great ball. Wilkins drove into the box, skipped one challenge which could of been a penalty, before being taken out. There could be no argument when the ref awarded the penalty. Rob Owen who started the move, coolly finished the pen putting Town 1-0 up.
Town continued much the same, not letting Highworth play. The hustle from centre midfielder Josh Forth was excellent, backed up by Sam Gorham and Matty Pill. The Don scored their second through right midfielder Will Brazen, who’s cross was mishandled by the Highworth keeper into his own net, Town now 2-0 up and looking confident.
However, the next 15 mins saw Town step off the gas and Highworth tried hard to get back into the game. They didn’t look too dangerous but Town weren’t winning those firsts and second balls anymore. A slip from Town captain Robbie Harrington led to a penalty, the Highworth taker, slotted home to get back to 2-1 just before the break.
After the break, Town got back to how they started the game, playing some good football, keeping shape and working so hard. Five minutes into the second-half a good cross from the right by Will was volleyed superbly by Jordan, the keeper could only parry and Town had two players ready to tap in. Robbie Harrington getting the goal, Town now 3-1 up.
Faringdon were controlling the game and creating other opportunities, one or two of which should have been converted. The 4th goal for Town came for Jordan Wilkins who was slipped in one on one and the end result was clinical, a deserved goal for Jordan who has been in great form. Town continued to work hard to the end and deserved a great 3 points.
Hopefully this will be the turning point for us, this should make the lads realise that you get out of a game what you put in. Hard work and effort with a lot of quality bought about this great result. Well deserved and hopefully many more to come. Great result gents you deserved it, bring on next week with the same attitude and commitment.
