Old foes, Town Vets and Witney Royals come face to face for the second time in four weeks at the Cinder Lane Stadium on Wednesday night, as the two sides clash in the Hellenic Vets Premier Division.
Royals were Town Vets first error competitive opponent last season and gave Town a lesson in taking your chances, winning that fixture before holding Town to a draw in the second meeting between the sides. As we know, Town then had the last laugh by winning the Division One title by six points, with both sides promoted into the ‘Big Boys’ league. The sides then met again in October this season, with Town travelling to the Radcot Road Ground to face Royals in Group A of the Vets Cup. Town were on the end of a 3-1 defeat that night, Craig ‘Gloria’ Gaynor grabbing an equaliser but poor defending and missed chances cost Town on the night.
Going into the tie, both sides were on the end of a defeat last time out. Town losing 4-1 to Old Hooky, Royals being overcome by Chinnor ‘A’ 3-2, both on the road. Witney are yet to pick up a league victory from their four fixtures, picking up a draw and three defeats (scoring 4, conceding 8), but did win all three of the Group Cup ties. Whilst Town have two wins and two defeats in the league (scoring 7, conceding 8) so far. The Town squad is bolstered by the return of Steve Pugh, Andy Lynham, Colin Yates & Pat Graham, whilst Chris Roche, Ben Spencer, Daryl Pugh & Craig Gaynor are all waiting in the wings for their opportunity should anyone become unavailable.
Please come down to the Cinder Lane Stadium, kick off is at 7.45pm with the Bar & Spikes Diner open during and after the game.
