|
The Don reached the semi final of the Charity Shield when they overcame rivals Saxton Rovers 3-2 in a competitive and thrilling match at Tucker Park. Pete Soane opened the scoring direct from a corner within 15 minutes, but Saxton equalised soon after and took the lead with eight minutes remaining. With time running out, Martyn Hathaway scored in the 87th and 89th minutes to end Town's four match losing streak and beat Saxton for the 3rd time this season in cup competitions. The Reserves had to do it the hard way against Division 5 side Benson Lions Reserves in the 1/4 final of the AG Kingham Cup. In a poor performance, Town found themselves 2-0 down but clawed their way back into the match and drew level to take the game into extra time. The winner game courtesy of a Lions defender who put through his own net for a 3-2 Town victory and a place in the semi finals. Appleton Stars came to Tucker Park with only nine players and found themselves 2 goals down to Town A's within five minutes of the kick off in Division 4. A hatful of missed chances went begging, however joint manager Troy Redman and leading scorer Matty Curtis grabbed hat-tricks, with Lee Moss, Craig Whittle and 16 year old Ryan Sharpes also finding the next in a 9-1 victory. The visitors grabbed a deserved goal for their efforts from the penalty spot. |
