Town Vets are back in action on Wednesday 8th November 2017 when they face Witney Royals Vets at Clanfield (85) FC, kick-off 7.45pm.
The two sides met on the opening day of the season, with Royals inflicting the only defeat The Don have experienced in both league and cup action in their first Veterans League season. Town rushed into a 2-0 half time lead and by Royals own admission, should have been out of sight but for missed chances. Royals used their extra experience at this level of football and came back to win 3-2, thanks to a dubious penalty in the final minutes.
Since that fixture, Town have gone on to win all eight league and cup matches on the bounce and currently sit top of the Hellenic Veterans Division One table with 5 wins and 1 defeat, whilst Royals are third with 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat, two points behind Town.
Royals have the division’s top goal scorers in Matthew Townsend and Martin Latimer (7 goals each), so have a potent strike force, whilst the Hellenic experienced Harry Burnley has grabbed a goal in all three appearances.
Town have been spreading the goals around the squad so far, with twelve different goal scorers, with Paul Smith and Mike Marsh currently leading the way with four goals apiece.
The Vets side would welcome all support at Clanfield (85) FC, with the ground on the left hand side of the A4095 before you reach Clanfield village, if travelling from Faringdon towards Witney or Carterton. Kick off is at 7.45pm.
Squad From: Lee Ruddle, Steve Pugh, Gary Sutton, Nick Wojcik, Matt Grantham, Colin Yates, Paul Hulme, Paul Smith, Mike Marsh, Troy Redman, Glenn Townsend, Phil Thompson, Patrick Graham, Damian Francis, Dave Legg, Gavin Stevens.
