Coleshill Res v Faringdon Town A – Match Report

The A’s travelled the short distance to the bottom of the hill at Coleshill. In hindsight, it would have been better if we had all continued driving past the ground and gone Christmas shopping in Swindon. Coleshill had a full squad with a good mix of experience and youth. From the first whistle, they took control and it was men against boys for the full 90 minutes.

After only 5 mins a poor back pass put in the Coleshill forward 1 on 1 with Frankie Goodwin in the Town goal he made the save. This should have woken the Don up but nothing stirred.

Goal 1: After a jinky run the Coleshill forward was brought down in the box. Frankie saved well from the spot kick the ball fell kindly to the penalty taker who tapped home.
Goal 2: 2 mins after the first a screamer from 25yrds.
Goal 3: 17 mins gone slotted home from a corner.

The Don had their best spell new signing Macauley Luckett-Groves came on for the Injured Iain Lawson, (Macca most be wondering why he signed) and a change of shape seem to steady the ship. We got in their half had a couple of corners and a few speculative shots.

Goal 4: 5 mins before half time game over.

Half time was talk of damage limitation. That did not work either!

Goal 5: 3 mins into the half.
Goal 6: came with 15 mins left. I cannot tell you much about the remaining goals, as I was covering my eyes with each attack.
Goals 7,8,9: came during the last 15 mins and the referees full time whistle was the best thing I had heard all day.

Not a nice day, fair play to Coleshill they took us apart but our very poor performance helped them enormously. I wonder if the Coleshill team will be as strong for their next game????

To end on a positive (there are always some) Our keeper Frankie Goodwin kept the score below 15 with some great saves he deserved more and Macca looks like he has some promise. Its only one game we have time now to regroup as we don’t play our next game until the New Year.

Sutton Courtenay have called of this week fixture due to lack of players so 3 points and up to 4th – happy days.

Final Score: Coleshill Res 9 v 0 Faringdon A
