The Don Vets welcomed Witney Royals to Clanfield (85) FC for their latest Hellenic Veterans Division One fixture. The visitors sat in third position, two places and points behind Town with both sides sure to be in the mix for the league title, with Oxford City A & Watlington OB’s.
Town Vets travelled to Chinnor FC to face Watlington Town Old Boys in the Hellenic League Division One Veterans, looking to make it eight wins on the bounce. The home side was unbeaten from their opening four league games and so the Town Vets knew they were in for a tough match, especially with the squad stretched due to injury and unavailability.
The Town management asked the matchday squad to start this weeks home match against Goring Old Boys, the total opposite to last weeks. The squad did just that, from the first whistle the FTFC Vets were challenging every ball, chasing down every pass and putting pressure on the opposition.
The veterans travelled to Abingdon Town FC for their final Group D Vets Cup fixture, having already qualified for the quarter-finals but looking to extend their current winning streak. OUP were this weeks opponents, from the Premier Division and who needed at least a draw to progress themselves.
The Don Vets went back to league action, following two cup group games and travelled to Milton Utd to face Benson Lions in Hellenic Veterans Division One. On arrival at the ground, the heavens opened but as the sides warmed up the rain had stopped but a swirling wind was evident. The pitch was surprisingly hard considering the rain, but it made for a quick passing surface.
The Vets welcomed Premier League side Chinnor B to Clanfield (85) FC’s Radcot Road Ground, in the 2nd Group D match of this seasons Veterans Challenge Cup. The Vets went into the match on a run of three victories over Woodley Utd Vets (League 4-1), Goring Utd Vets (League 3-1) & Woodley Utd Vets (Cup 2-0), so were full of confidence.
