Faringdon Town A v Grove Reserves
26th November 2016
Faringdon Town A entertained high-flying undefeated Grove Reserves at Tucker Park on Saturday looking to continue their recent good form. A couple of late drop-outs forced a change of shape, the lads looked to contain the opposition in the early stages. Grove enjoyed much of the possession but did not threaten Lee Murbey’s goal. The Don also had their fair share of chances Jack Green shooting over on 30 minutes, 5 minutes later Liam Farmer’s free kick was tipped over. From the resulting corner, Jack put in a great ball across goal, only needing a connection but it bypassed everyone to safety. Grove were still finding it difficult to get any rhythm going, but just before half-time they broke the deadlock.
It was a scrappy goal, a miss-hit cross evaded almost every one as it tricked across the box, eventually falling to a Grove player stood ten yards out in front of goal for an easy tap in. Don almost drew level in the dying minutes of the half. A free kick from the edge of the box was superbly struck by Jason Evans, the ball hit the underside of the and crashed down on the line.
The second half was all Grove, they dominated play hitting the bar twice from corners. It still took them until the 65 minute to add a second. The ball broke loose from the Dons box the Grove player struck the ball sweetly and it screamed into the top corner from 25 yards. Jack Green’s quick thinking almost caught out the Grove keeper, his long-range effort looped over the stranded keeper, but the ball dropped wide of the post. Grove added a third minutes before full-time.
Final score: Faringdon Town A 0 – 3 Grove Reserves
The lads battled well and frustrated Grove for long periods, a good shift boys!
